Diamond Polishing Pads & Discs

Diamond polishing pads are specialized tools used in the stone and concrete industry for grinding, honing, and polishing surfaces.

JK-Tools will provide you with wet and dry diamond polishing pads, commonly used to achieve a smooth and shiny finish on materials such as granite, marble, concrete, and other natural and artificial stone.

When choosing a diamond polishing pad, there are several factors to consider:

Grit Size: Diamond pads come in different grit sizes, which determine the coarseness or fineness of the abrasive. Consider the level of polishing required and the condition of the surface you're working on. Coarser grits (e.g., 30-200) are used for initial grinding and removing imperfections. We recommend the , while finer grits (e.g., 400-3000) are used for honing and achieving a high gloss finish.

Material Compatibility: Ensure that the diamond pad you choose is suitable for the material you're working on. Different pads are designed specifically for granite, marble, concrete, or other surfaces. Using the appropriate pad for the material will optimize the polishing process and prevent damage.

Pad Size and Shape: Consider the size and shape of the surface you'll be polishing. Diamond pads come in various sizes and configurations, such as round discs or rectangular blocks. Choose a pad that matches the size and shape of the area you need to polish to ensure efficient and even coverage.

Backing Type: Diamond pads can have different types of backing, such as rigid, semi-flexible, or flexible. The backing affects the pad's stability and flexibility during use. Rigid backing offers better control but may not conform well to curved surfaces, while flexible backing is more adaptable but may sacrifice some control.

Water Usage: Determine if the pad requires wet or dry use. Most diamond pads are used with water as a lubricant to reduce heat and control dust. However, some pads are specifically designed for dry use, which may be more convenient in certain situations.

Durability and Longevity: Consider the durability of the diamond pad. Higher-quality pads tend to last longer and maintain their effectiveness over time. Look for pads with good reviews or recommendations from reliable sources to ensure a longer lifespan.

Brand and Reputation: Choose a reputable brand that is known for manufacturing high-quality diamond polishing pads. Research customer reviews and seek recommendations from professionals in the industry to ensure you are selecting a reliable product.

How Long Do Resin Bonded Diamond Polishing Pads Last?

The lifespan of these pads can vary depending on several factors such as the quality of the pads, the type of material being polished, and the specific application.

On average, resin bonded diamond polishing pads can last between 100 to 200 hours of use. However, this estimate can vary significantly depending on the factors mentioned above. If the pads are used on softer materials, they may wear out more quickly compared to harder materials. Additionally, aggressive applications or improper use can also decrease the lifespan of the pads.

It's important to note that regular maintenance and proper care can extend the life of resin bonded diamond polishing pads. Cleaning the pads after each use and using them at the appropriate speed and pressure can help maximize their lifespan.

How to polish a surface with a diamond polishing pad?

To polish a surface using a diamond polishing pad, follow these steps:

#1. Acquire a high-quality set of diamond polishing pads and a backing pad.

#2. Affix the backing pads to the wet/dry grinder, which can be adjusted for varying speeds.

#3. Ensure that the work surface is securely fastened and will not slide or shift.

#4. Connect the 50-grit pad to the grinder and initiate the polishing process from left to right, employing a low speed of under 1,000 RPM. Continue polishing until most of the visible saw marks and scratches have been eliminated.

#5. Transition to the 100-grit polishing pad and repeat the same procedure. By the end of this step, any discernible saw marks or scratches should no longer be visible.

#6. Proceed to the 200-grit pad and repeat the process accordingly.

#7. Advance to the 400-grit pad and repeat the procedure. By the end of this stage, you will observe the granite surface starting to exhibit a lustrous shine.

#8. Gradually work your way through the 800, 1,000, and 1,500-grit pads, witnessing an increasingly radiant appearance on the surface.

#9. Conclude with the application of a 1,500-grit pad. At this stage, you will observe a glossy, mirror-like finish on the surface.
